The World is Yours, So Take It!

Life is a playful thing if you play and life can be pretty serious if you always take it too seriously.

Do you remember what life used to be like?  Before all of the responsibilities or the pressures of being a “grown up”?  Constantly feeling like a failure because you didn’t live up to the gold standard of society?

What if I told you, you could be happy?

What if I told you that all that you needed to do was shift your focus?

Find the little joys in each moment and devour them.  Make them stand out and life will find you more and more of it each day, until your cup is overflowing with carefree smiles and something that you actually want to drink.

As I begin each weekday, I drop my daughter off at school and I have a decision to make.  I can go home where I’ll do dishes and computer work in an empty house, as the sun pours in through the cracks in the blinds, or, I can go for my morning walk.  And each day once her little feet hit the pavement, I begin driving, down the road, past my house, and to the familiar trail.

Because I am in control.

I enjoy discovering frog heads in the pond.  You really have to look, but they’re there, and once you see one, you’ll never miss a frog head again.  (Sound familiar?)

I enjoy walking on all the cracks in the pavement as they guide me to my destination.  (And no, I don’t think any mom’s backs were broken in the process.)

I enjoy kicking the walnuts that have fallen from the trees down the trail to see how far they will go before rolling off to the sidelines.

I stop and say hi to squirrels and birds.

I daydream about what all the fuss is when a gaggle of geese comes bustling by in their loud cacophony of honks through the sky.

I love to watch the leaves as they gravely flutter towards the ground.  Sometimes I try to catch them as they fall from branches.

There’s nothing that needs to be done on my walks.  I merely exist as I meander through a familiar path, with something new to discover every time.

All you have to do is pay attention.

Your reality is yours to create.  So take the time to discover what brings you joy, and soon enough it will follow you everywhere you go.

Break free from the day to day and find your happiness.  We’re only here for just a little while – so what will you do with your time?
